Sensei Banks was born in 1957 and is employed by Sunoco Logistics. Sensei Banks began studying Isshinryu in 1981 at the Summerdale, PA dojo of Sensei Sam Morrow, receiving his Sho-Dan on April 18, 1989, and continued there until 1998. From 1998 through 2002, he studied with Robert Smith. In 2002, Sensei Banks joined the Dillsburg Karate Academy, along with his students, Mark and Alex Stephens.
Sensei Banks received his Sho-Dan in 1989 and was most recently promoted to Roku-Dan in October, 2007.
Sensei Banks likes Isshinryu because "it's a bonecrushing style" and would like people to know "it is a pure style, fairly easily learned". He also states that "the dojo that I now attend (Dillsburg Karate Academy) is very well instructed, [and] very professional."
